FIELD NOTES ยท IF SHE ONLY KNEW SERIES

Here is a number worth sitting with.
4 out of 5
In Blue Star Families' 2021 Military Family Lifestyle Survey, only 1 in 5 active-duty spouses said they felt a sense of belonging to their spouse's unit or command. Flip it around and it reads like this: 4 out of 5 went through the season without ever feeling like the support system around them was theirs.
So she became the emotional backbone by default. Not because she applied for the job. Because somebody had to hold the house together, and she was the one standing in the kitchen.
1.She ran the house like nothing was wrong.
Bills. Repairs. Schedules. School forms. She kept all of it moving, so the home he came back to still felt like home. Nobody called it a job. She did it anyway.
2.She answered the hard questions softly.
The kids asked where he was, and when it would feel normal again. She carried both answers so they would not have to. She felt him leaving before he ever walked out. She answered anyway.
3.She held her fear where nobody could see it.
So he could come home to calm, she swallowed hers alone. Every night. On purpose. Calm was her gift to him. Silence was the price.
It was not weakness. It was untrained carrying.
No one ever told her it counted as carrying something. No training. No title. No relief.
And that season leaves a mark on the carrier too.
If that was your house, start here. The Family Check-In names what your house is carrying, in about three minutes.
Take the Family Check-InThen join me live on Thursday, November 19 at 8 PM ET for After the Homecoming. Registration closes November 18.
We need you here. Period.
